Backyard - 2011
Pratt Museum, 2011
MTS Gallery, 2011
Found objects, digital video
Since pioneering days, we Alaskans have been known to hoard a lot of stuff. Our backyards don't conceal as much as they reveal about us. In this exhibit, Alaskans Asia Freeman and Michael Walsh explores stories, truths, myths, dreams and disasters memorialized in our backyards. This installation of found objects, archival film and audio as well as original footage and sound reveals and challenge some myths and truths that make Alaska so big. If you stir up story, memory, object and desire, reality and imagination fuse. The truth is elusive, perhaps forgotten and often too hard to bear. Ultimately, what’s worth saving?
